The Lounge

The Lounge

On the upper floor of the gallery, The Lounge offers a more intimate experience of Forwart’s world. A quieter pace within the gallery, in a more intimate setting, where art and design quietly unfold in conversation. This space brings together a curated selection of artworks and collectible design — both contemporary and vintage — in a setting that feels domestic, reflective, and refined.

Alongside our rotating exhibitions on the main floor downstairs, The Lounge hosts a slower, ongoing group presentation: a changing composition of works by our artists, often in dialogue with design pieces that share their sense of materiality and tactility. It is a place where textures meet, where the filtered light shifts throughout the day, and where works are allowed to stay — and to resonate — a little longer. Interactions that happen quietly, yet deliberately.

The Lounge invites a slower rhythm. Not a separate space, but a continuation — a deepening — of Forwart’s curatorial vision.

Teun Zwets

“I work intuitive, hands-on, and like to think practical. I’m not a person that overthinks or makes things complicated. By just doing things, I find out if things work or not work. I use a lot of material that people throw away. The beauty of other people’s trash I find amazing,” Teun shares, shedding light on his creative mind.

His vision extends beyond the studio walls to the very streets we traverse daily. “Everywhere in the world, people litter their trash in nature and the streets. There is so much potential use of the material on the street that people don’t see,” he observes, a belief that serves as a guiding principle. By harnessing freely available and discarded materials, Teun finds a seamless rhythm in his creative process. The fear of waste dissipates when material is already destined for disposal. “If something fails, you only lose time,” he rationalizes, valuing time as an essential currency in the journey of artistic exploration.

Yet, beyond the artistic process, Teun’s work carries a deeper purpose – one that resonates with happiness and sustainability. “Making makes me happy, and I want to make people happy with my creations,” he expresses with an infectious enthusiasm. This pursuit of happiness is intricately woven into his designs, where the choice of materials takes center stage. “Making a good design with the right materials is important,” Teun asserts. It’s a sentiment that echoes his commitment to sustainability, as he aims to create objects that endure through time, encouraging a culture of ownership that champions the environment.

Ludwig Mies van der Rohe

Ludwig Mies van der Rohe (1886–1969) was one of the most influential architects of the 20th century and a pioneer of modernist architecture. Designed by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe in 1929 for the German Pavilion at the International Exposition in Barcelona, the Barcelona Chair is an icon of modern design. Combining clean lines, luxurious materials, and masterful craftsmanship, the chair reflects Mies’ “less is more” philosophy. With its elegant silhouette and timeless appeal, the Barcelona Chair remains a symbol of sophistication and architectural minimalism.
