The most graphic of the Flooded Stripes works, this panel alternates bands of deep red with narrower lines of green and white. Seen through Guillaume Grando's sculpted resin surface, the stripes waver and swell, as if the pattern lay at the bottom of a pool. The French artist, born in 1978 and based in Biarritz, has worked with resin since 2011 and uses it to explore chance, gloss, reflection and depth. Here those qualities act on a motif with clear edges and strong contrast, which makes the distortion more legible. The work holds two readings at once: a flat, striped composition and a body of water in motion above it.
