In D75, the bag leans slightly to one side, as if it had just been set down and the water inside were still settling. Dylan Martinez builds that sense of motion into a solid object. Rising bubbles are trapped within the glass, and the bag's folds are sculpted by hand while the material is hot, so that the gesture of the form carries the illusion. Martinez, who was born red-green colourblind, has long been interested in how perception can be distorted. He has observed that our desires often override what we actually see, and his water bags put that observation to the test.
