The artwork emphasizes the perpetuation of the
iconic Brillant Delvaux bag, but at the same time
it is also very interesting how the decomposition
raises the question of sustainability of objects and
also addresses the pursuit of fashion and trendy
collector’s items. The much sought-after status
symbol is decomposed and reduced to a sequence
of materials and everyday objects, both on the
inside and the outside. This critical questioning
gives considerable added value to the appreciation
of the work. Guy Leclef knows how to play these
themes powerfully. They lift the work to a higher
level and make it all the more topical, universal and
therefore fascinating.



The first two Delvaux bags by Guy Leclef belong
to the Delvaux collection, at the Delvaux Museum
and in Hong Kong.



The Delvaux pieces were part of various shows,
shoots and publications, as well as “Paperworld”
(2016) and “Paperworld II” (2022).

Het werk beklemtoont niet enkel de vereeuwiging van de iconische Brillant Delvaux-tas an sich, maar ook de durf tot ontmanteling en decompositie ervan. Interessant is hoe deze decompositie de vraag naar de duurzaamheid van objecten oproept en tegelijkertijd de absurditeit van het najagen van mode en trendy collectors items aankaart. Het zo begeerde statussymbool wordt volledig ontmanteld en herleid tot een opeenvolging van materialen en alledaagse objecten, zowel aan de binnen- als aan de buitenzijde. Deze kritische bevraging verleent een aanzienlijke meerwaarde aan de appreciatie van het werk. Guy Leclef weet deze thema’s op krachtige wijze te bespelen. Ze tillen het werk naar een hoger niveau en maken het des te actueler, universeler en boeiender.
