Oliva belongs to Corine van Voorbergen's Monos, where emotion is placed front and centre and a single colour is explored through its gradations. An olive green brightens toward the lower centre of the disc and darkens to near-black at the rim, giving the flat surface the appearance of depth. The Dutch artist builds the work intuitively in layers of pigment on wood and finishes it with a thin coat of epoxy, which reflects the surroundings back to the person looking. A hand-polished brass ring seals the 128 cm piece. Named for a colour drawn from nature, the work reflects her aim of recreating the chemistry she observes there.
