Rising to 192 cm, this El Mar work presents an organic, vertical form in copper-plated stainless steel. Pepe Valenti shapes each piece by hand and intuitively, using heat, so that no two are alike; the curvature of the surface distorts what it reflects, as the moving water of the ocean does. The copper finish warms the light it returns and links the work to the sunrise and sunset pieces within the series. Valenti, who studied at the Design Academy Eindhoven, works between design and art and asks where one becomes the other. At this scale, the reflective surface operates almost architecturally, altering the light of the space around it.
