Breathe belongs to Corine van Voorbergen's Monos, a body of work in which a single colour and its gradations carry the full weight of the composition. The Dutch artist treats the circle as a form of perpetual movement, without beginning or end, and here restricts herself to blue, deepening from a luminous centre toward a darker perimeter. Built intuitively on wood through successive layers of pigment, the surface is finished with a thin coat of epoxy that reflects its surroundings, while a hand-polished brass ring seals the edge. The title points to a bodily rhythm: the slow expansion and release that the gradient registers in colour rather than in image.
