Guillaume Grando's Surface And Depth series explores his interest in the artistic properties of fluids, drawn to the freedom of form and movement liquid allows. Surface And Depth #316 is built through layered acrylic and resin on wood, a process that superimposes a polished resin surface over an initial acrylic layer, producing an image that reads as both a fixed composition and a captured instant of motion. The rippling, reflective surface evokes water without depicting it directly, translating Grando's close relationship with the ocean and its shifting light into a material process rather than a representational scene. Depth and surface become interchangeable here, each resin layer holding the illusion of continuous movement within a static object.
