CD 59 is a work of 54 x 59 cm in which upcycled cardboard strips, wrapped in pale paper cord, are laid in curved bands that cross, fold and interlock across the surface. The dark tone of the cardboard and the fine light lines of the cord create a strong graphic rhythm, while the overlapping bands give the work a pronounced relief. Nothing in the composition is static: the bands seem to turn and gather as if pulled together, filling the white frame with rounded corners and appearing to continue beyond it. As the light changes, the raised cords cast fine shadows, giving the surface a tactile quality that is as important as its visual pattern.
