Guy Leclef builds this work from thousands of cardboard fragments set on edge, their cut profiles forming a dense, granular topography across the surface. Rather than concealing the material's origin, the work exposes it: the corrugated edges, worn tones, and irregular heights of salvaged cardboard remain legible even as they are absorbed into a unified field. Leclef's process favors accumulation over image-making, with meaning emerging through repetition, density, and the subtle variation between individual pieces rather than through representation. Framed in walnut, the piece sits between painting and relief, its texture shifting with light and viewing angle. The result reconsiders cardboard not as waste awaiting disguise, but as a material whose structure, once multiplied, generates its own visual logic.
