Martinez renders that detail entirely in hot-sculpted glass, along with the small bubbles suspended near the base. The work depends on a paradox that runs through his practice: glass is hard and permanent, yet here it imitates one of the most fragile and disposable objects in daily life. The heavier the material, the lighter and more temporary the image it produces.
