Surface And Depth #02267 moves from a bright blue at the top to deep teal at the base, a gradient that reads as distance across water or as increasing depth. Over this colour field, Guillaume Grando models a relief of ripples in resin, built up in layers with acrylic on wood and then sanded and sculpted. Light striking the surface completes the image, so that the work changes through the day and with the viewer's position. A surfer who spends long periods in the ocean observing natural phenomena, the artist removes every element except undulation. What remains is movement, held in a material that was itself once liquid.
