CD 53 is a small work of 50 x 56 cm composed of pale blocks of upcycled paper arranged in rows within a white frame with rounded corners. Each block differs slightly in width and length, and it is this variation that gives the grid its irregular, shifting quality: no row is quite aligned. The near-white palette lets the relief be defined by shadow, each block casting a fine dark line beneath it. Its intimate scale invites close viewing, and the surface changes noticeably as the light moves across it during the day.
