CD 54 is made from strips of upcycled cardboard wrapped in pale paper cord and laid in broad, curving bands that cross and overlap across a field of 54 x 59 cm. The dark cardboard and the fine light lines of the cord produce a strong graphic rhythm, while the bands seem to fold over one another like gathered fabric or a loosened knot. Held within a white frame with rounded corners, the composition has no centre and no fixed direction. The contrast between the raised cord and the recessed cardboard creates a pronounced relief, so that the work changes with the angle and intensity of the light.
