CD 58 departs from the rectangle: its bands of upcycled cardboard, wrapped in pale paper cord, form a free, irregular shape that floats on a white ground within a frame of 107 x 127 cm. The bands fold, twist and knot into one another, as if a length of striped material had been gathered by hand and pressed onto the surface. The open white space around the form gives it the presence of an object rather than a pattern. Guy Leclef's practice gives discarded material a second life, and here recycled cardboard and cord become a single, compact form full of movement, whose relief changes strongly with the light.
