El Mar takes its name and its subject from the sea. Pepe Valenti describes watching sunlight strike the water and produce countless sparkling reflections, a phenomenon this work translates into metal. A disc of stainless steel, 100 cm in diameter and divided into three sections, is shaped by hand with heat and finished in reflective chrome. Its rippled surface does not depict water; it behaves like it, breaking the surrounding space into shifting, distorted reflections that change as the viewer moves. The series began as Valenti's 2022 graduation project at the Design Academy Eindhoven and remains central to a practice he calls thinking through making.
