CD 43 is a small work, 48 x 53 cm, in which upcycled cardboard is shaped into curling, irregular forms set against a dark ground. The density of the motif and the contrast of light and dark give it the intensity of a drawing. Guy Leclef works by preparing each piece carefully, then allowing intuition to guide the placement of the elements. Here the result is close to an organic growth, a pattern that seems to have developed by itself. The compact scale concentrates the effect, inviting close attention to the edges and textures of the reused material.
