Living and working in Brussels, Duboscq explores the boundaries between painting and sculpture. At the heart of his practice lies the fold. Rather than depicting folds on a canvas, he transforms the canvas itself, creating sculptural compositions that challenge our perception of surface, depth and dimension.
In Inside Out, what is traditionally hidden becomes visible. Front and back, interior and exterior, become equally important. Duboscq builds his works through successive layers of carefully selected pigments, folding, tearing and manipulating the canvas according to the qualities of the material. While the process is carefully considered, chance and the unexpected are deliberately allowed to intervene. What seeps through, escapes or overflows becomes as important as what the artist initially intended.
This tension between control and unpredictability runs throughout his practice. Often modular in nature, his works can expand, contract or be rearranged, unfolding beyond the individual canvas and into the surrounding space.
Duboscq also has a longstanding practice as a composer. This sensibility can be felt in the repetition, intervals and sequences within his visual work, creating a rhythm across individual elements and larger installations.
His work has been presented internationally, from Brussels and Paris to New York, Miami, Hong Kong and Seoul, and at leading international art fairs including TEFAF Maastricht, BRAFA Brussels and Art Miami.
